You need some lavender in your life. Affectionately known by some as the “swiss army knife of essential oils,” lavender is one of the most well-known, versatile and safest oils of all time. Its wide range of therapeutic benefits can be characterized as calming, cooling, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, immune-boosting, and hormone balancing. Let’s break down some of the best ways to incorporate this serene, powerhouse essential oil into your summertime routine:

  1. Diffuse, diffuse!

    Whether you’re looking for ambiance at home or trying to manage your crazy in a hectic work environment, lavender is there for you. Floral and fruity tones will bring you and anyone in your immediate vicinity some much needed relaxation.

  2. Apply lavender topically.

    No longer are we confined to getting our lavender fix from synthetic fragrances in beauty products! Get your hands on some pure lavender oil, add a few drops to your favorite moisturizing carrier oil and prepare for your life to change. Some of my favorite carrier oils include coconut oil, jojoba oil, and avocado seed oil on both my face and hair. This method of application is wonderful for therapeutic massage, beauty products, and perfume with an aromatherapy boost!

  3. Let it cool you down.

    Spending a lot of time outdoors this summer? Your skin will thank you for a spritz of some lavender infused cooling spray. This spray is as simple as 1, 2, 3…1) Distilled water, 2) Witch hazel, 3) Lavender oil. Shake and spritz and you’ve got restorative magic for every beach trip, soccer game or hike.

  4. Make Lavender Lemonade.

    Oh yes, we said it. The “hostess with the most-est” can shake up traditional summer BBQs with essential oils in the kitchen. Consider making a lavender lemonade beverage or popsicle, or lavender-infused cookies. Not only will your guests leave inspired, but you will have treated them to some fantastic health benefits.

  5. Add it to your bath.

    Remember to leave self-care on your list this summer! Quiet your mind after a day of multi-tasking by mixing 3-5 drops of lavender oil in with a ½ cup of Epsom salts and adding to a bath. Once again, you’ve got the added benefit of soothing overworked skin and any skin irritants you might have picked up outdoors. You can extend the serenity by rubbing a few drops in your hands and swiping across your pillow before bed.

These ideas only just scratch the surface! Remember that these recommendations are only safe for certified therapeutic grade essential oils.
